"Our Beautiful Pacific" - Manual Antonio, Costa Rica

The beaches in Costa Rica are truly magnificent. A lot of them are part of the National Park system and although toured by many visitors from around the world, they are kept in pristine condition. Coming from Michigan, I am accustomed to the beauty of the Great Lakes which also resemble ocean shores. The beaches in Costa Rica are as glorious.

Five years ago the New York Times ran an article about a British ex-pat who lived in Aix en Provence and produced a small daily painting inspired by the country, the people, the architecture, the flora and fauna. I was entranced by the article dreaming that to be able to paint daily would be just that “a dream.”

In 2009 my dream became a reality. I resigned my position as Director of the Grosse Pointe Art Center in Michigan and moved to the Central Valley in Costa Rica.

Like the British ex-pat, Julian, and a number of other artists, I paint the country in which I live. My paintings are usually 5" x 7", acrylic, or oil on Masonite board, or stretched canvas. I am not new to the creative process of painting. I have created art all of my life, most often in Michigan, where I have exhibited and sold.
